ShopStorm Case Study: Project Pretty November 19, 2014 20:00

We’re excited to bring you another shop in our ShopStorm Case Study series! In this series of posts, we take a look at stores who use our apps to help run their Shopify businesses and find out some of the tips they have from running successful eCommerce shops.

Today’s case study takes a closer look at Project Pretty.

Project Pretty is the brainchild of two graphic designer friends, Kerry Jones and Rebecca Friend. Their homepage summarizes what their shop is about far better than we could:

Welcome to Project Pretty, the home of quirky wedding stationery and paper goods.

Founded in 2010 in Chester, UK, Project Pretty ships throughout the UK and specializes in contemporary stationery, such as wedding invitations, save the date cards, christening invitations, and gift cards.

One of our favorite products in their line is the Airline Boarding Pass Wedding Invitation, which uses Product Customizer to add a dropdown and text input for personalization. It’s a fun and unique way to invite guests to share your big day.

They use Product Customizer on several other products to add dropdowns, text fields, and file uploads to personalize stationery for their customers. We also really like the Retro Vintage Table Plan, which uses these options to create a seating list for display at your wedding reception.

Like many businesses today, Project Pretty was founded because Kerry and Rebecca couldn’t find a product they needed themselves and wanted to purchase. They worked together and had gotten engaged around the same time, and agreed that they couldn’t find stationery choices that suited their weddings.

Kerry said, “With coming from a graphic design / print background, we both wanted something a bit more exciting than pearlescent card and diamantés!” They took this idea – that wedding stationery doesn’t have to be predictable or boring – and decided to found their store. Kerry continued:

This inspired us to start our own business to cater for the brides and grooms looking for something a little different – and having worked at a design agency that predominantly serviced the Oil and Gas industry, we were both itching to design ‘pretty things’!

We love stories like this: entrepreneurs realize that there’s a need for something, and instead of wishing that someone else would sell it, they go do it themselves. We love being able to provide apps and services that help businesses achieve this!

We caught up with Kerry to ask a few more questions about Project Pretty and how they use Product Customizer in their shop:

How do you use our apps?

We use the Product Customizer app on our wedding stationery product pages so that the customer can select the required colour/design and add their details to customise.

What’s your favorite thing about our apps?

How easy it is to use and the excellent customer services!

That’s music to our ears. smile

If you’re curious about our customer service, we do post a “Happiness Report” each month that details our response times and customer ratings, and we take a lot of pride in providing support that makes our clients happy.

Do you have any advice for new stores?

If you are having problems or can’t figure something out, just ask the customer services team. I have previously wasted time trying to figure things out when all I needed to do was drop an email to the customer services team. Any problem has been dealt with super-quick.

This is great advice for not just our app, but any app! We’ve used apps from other developers, and it’s always so nice to run into a question that they can help out with very quickly instead of wasting time while stuck on something. The Shopify Gurus also do a great job with general questions about your store.

Thanks so much to Kerry for chatting with us about Project Pretty! You can learn more about them here, and check out their invitations and cards if you’re in the UK.
